An American Writer's Thoughts on Japanese Animation

Seasonal Selection – Scarlet Nexus Episode 26 (End)

Boring time is had
An unneeded episode
Nebulous future

Everyone forgets Karen other than Yuito and Kasane, but some faint echoes remain with the rest of the cast. The Others are still a threat, but a decaying one without the extinction belt that spawned them gone. Kasane is set to lead a manned mission to the moon to find out what’s up there because nobody has telescope technology in this universe (or sufficently-ranged clairvoyance I guess). Yuito had one last hospital bout so he spends the episode in a wheelchair he’ll not need for much longer. He’s going into politics to make a better nation. Everybody else follows some path or another in the OSF and lives optimistically ever after.

The end. That took me one paragraph. Why does it merit an entire half hour episode for this show?

It’s not out of character that the last episode here is a slow, dull, wasteful, because the show has been so on the whole. There was a time when it seemed to be skewing a little more competent, but ultimately the material just wasn’t there. I don’t know if they gave this thing too many episodes or if they did a disservice to the source material, but either way the result is not good.

In the end, there’s really nothing in Scarlet Nexus to really recommend it. It’s a dull slog that I’m glad to be done with, which while better than some seasonals I’ve been through doesn’t mean it gets a passing grade. At the end of it all, this show earns a D grade and stands as something liable to be soon forgotten.

Sorry for the short write-up, but this show is not worth more of my time or yours.
