An American Writer's Thoughts on Japanese Animation

Novels

In addition to criticizing Anime and related media, I also write genre fiction! Typically, I operate in the same sort of broad band of Fantasy, Scifi, Urban Fantasy, and assorted -punk genres that you’ll see in most of the stuff I review. Presently, I have one stand-alone novel, and the start of a trilogy, with more on the way!  On this page, I’ll try to tell you a little about current and upcoming releases, including what anime series (and qualities thereof) might mean you’d be interested.

Witch Hunters

Demons… Otherworldly creatures of living color that feed on magical energies and menace humanity. May, Zeke, and their friends have been raised and trained to fight such creatures, but something is rotten in Empyrean City. Magic-wielding terrorists skulk through the alleys and maintenance tunnels, calling ever more and more threatening demons into the world, while tensions between the city’s council and its prominent Witch families threaten to erupt into all-out war. It’s up to the young hunters, along with the heiress of one of the city’s witch clans, to find and put a stop to the schemes placing their shared home in jeopardy.

Book 1 of the Empyrean City Trilogy

Witch Hunters is an Urban Fantasy/Cyberpunk novel, set in a futuristic city where wizards and robotics exist side by side. The story features both action and mystery. It might be to your interest if you liked…

… The colorful casts of youngsters in Mekakucity Actors or Darling in the Franxx.

The Accursed

After sacrificing her humanity to survive a devious assassination, Princess Esteri of Kalest learns that the masterminds that sought her death were none other than her own father and stepmother. Fleeing into the night, she finds allies among the Accursed – those reviled by the world, who share her new affliction. Together, they must struggle to stop the continent from being consumed by an unjust war or the machinations of an ancient conspiracy in a contest of kings and outcasts, of gods and monsters.

The Accursed is a Fantasy novel in the traditional sense, taking place in a world not our own, where magic and monsters are very much real. For fans of the blog, you might find the story up your alley if you liked…

… The titular order and the nature and powers of its members in Claymore

… The focus on the fate of nations and adventurous or monstrous behavior of nobles in Magi
