Seasonal Selection – Managment of a Novice Alchemist Episode 6

It’s time for a clam bake at the obligatory swimsuit episode.

Yeah, that’s what we’re doing. The gatherers hear about some special clams in a lake nearby. At first, Sarasa isn’t impressed since only the female clams are worthwhile alchemy ingredients, but when Laura points out she can cook the males into a delicious meal, the gathering is on!

Most of the episode is concerned with Laura and Sarasa at the lake – while Iris and Kate dive for clams, Sarasa teaches Laura how to swim, and reflects on what a good and devoted girl Laura is. Towards the end of the day, everyone gets together… only to be attacked by a giant lamprey/hagfish/eel monster (it has a lamprey’s mouth, a hagfish’s slime, an electric eel’s shock, and the size of a sea serpent). It’s dealt with, during which point Sarasa ends up revealing that her pendant is a limiter that helps her control her magic more than anything. It being late, the group decides it’s time for some fresh clams, and giant monster unagi to go with them.

Thus, we play out another harmless episode of cute girls doing cute thing, this time with more fanservice than usual. I hope you enjoyed it because, really this show is fluff and there’s not much I can bring to each and every episode. Is Sarasa overpowered and never really challenged by the things like giant monsters she encounters? Yeah, but that’s not the point. The point is cute girls being cute with a faint side of “this is a fantasy show, better fight a monster.” And that’s what it does.
